Our love story
How we met
Our story has been a beautiful seven-year journey, all of which started on an unassuming day in, of all places, a surgical ward of Groote-Schuur Hospital. We were introduced by none other than Mehreen (Fathima’s older sister) who will claim to this day that she predicted the entire unfolding of our lives together. This is only partly true…
Fast forward to
Fast forward a few months – a bright-eyed, newly graduated Durban girl about to start her internship in Cape Town, and a matured second year preparing for his community service – we kept fatefully finding each other when we needed it most. Through post-call breakdowns and spontaneous midweek brunches, Andrew found himself incessantly distracted and not noticing that he was gradually falling in love with the girl who he would always seem to find sitting opposite him, usually with a sweet treat (or five) in her hand.
From a distance
We lost touch for a short time when we were apart, during Fathima’s community service year and the years of COVID. We soon realised that we would always subconsciously reach out for one another when times were toughest and that, despite being on opposite ends of the country, this was the one person who we knew would always be there.
The stars aligned
After three years, the stars aligned. We both found ourselves in the same city, and the rest is as typically spark-igniting-eye-rolling-romantic as it could ever be. Even before Fathima agreed to an actual date, Andrew had started planning our lives together: beginning with a ridiculously over-the-top first date weekend, because he knew that he wanted to have the perfect story to tell our kids one day.
Sharing our love
Now we share a love which has grown, and taken many different forms over the years, and neither of us can imagine a version of our story that doesn’t end up right here, sharing our promise of forever with you all.
